Dr. Marieke M. van Katwijk, senior scientist Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands.

General After MSc graduation in Biology in 1985, she started working as a scientific researcher at the Netherlands Institute of Sea Research, dep. of Autecology, followed by an employment at the consultancy Witteveen+Bos. Since 1988 she is scientific project manager and researcher at the Radboud University Nijmegen, Department Ecology, and from 2000 onwards at the Department of Environmental Science; PhD: 2000. Until 2002 she autonomously acquired external funding for her own position at the Radboud University and those of junior researchers and assistants.

Since 2002, she obtained a staff position at the Radboud University which enabled her to dedicate herself to the acquisition of fundamental research in addition to applied research. This resulted in the acquisition of a mix of projects financed by on the one hand the National Science Foundation and Royal National Academy of Science, and on the other hand by governmental institutions, yielding PhD-student positions and postdoc positions. Between 2005 and 2007 she ran an ecological consultancy 'Ecoscience' in addition to her employment at the RU Nijmegen. Since 2010 she is a fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, Department Estuarine and Delta Systems in Yerseke
Research topics: Seagrass restoration and mitigation, seagrass ecology, ecosystem engineering, biogeomorphology, biogeochemistry, policy-science interface. Research locations: NW Europe, Indonesia, China, Caribbean.
